Scholarly Areas: Healthcare Work Environments and their effect on organizational performance and patient and provider outcomes; nurse manager stress; the nurses' role in healthcare facility design; nursing leadership and its effect on nurse satisfaction, commitment, autonomy, and professional practice; nurse-physician collaboration; women's health and perinatal nursing.
Biography: Jaynelle F. Stichler is recognized for her pioneering work as one of the nation's first nurse consultants in the design of healthcare environments. Dr. Stichler studies the effect of the work environment (facility design & leadership) on organizational performance and patient and provider outcomes.
Dr. Stichler is the co-founder and coeditor of Health Environments Research & Design (HERD) Journal, an international, interdisciplinary evidence-based journal that disseminates healthcare design research articles. She also authors a column on Evidence-based Health Facility design for the Journal of Nursing Administration and a column on Leadership in the Journal of Nursing for Women's Health. She was the former VP for Women's Services at Sharp HealthCare in San Diego, CA.
Prior to coming to SDSU, Dr. Stichler was the President & CEO of Stichler Consulting, LLC, a company focused on strategic planning and healthcare design.
