Scholarly Areas: Adolescent perceptions to physical education activities; prevention of adolescent obesity; instrument development; school health policy at local and state levels; cultural competency for nurses in the workplace.
Biography: Diane Thomason is a community health nurse specializing in the prevention of adolescent obesity. Her most recent research was the development and psychometric evaluation of the Physical Education Activities Scale (PEAS) that measured Pacific Northwest adolescent perceptions to school physical education activities. Prior to coming to SDSU, Dr. Thomason organized, developed, and facilitated bilingual educational nutritional programs for multicultural, low-income communities in Seattle Washington. She has been an invited advisor for the writing of a nutritional policy for the Seattle Public School District and for the Washington State Department of Health’s development of the state’s current master plan for school vending machine policy.
