The SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships lists numerous additional scholarships specific to nursing students as well as opportunities open to all students.

You must report any scholarship information to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. If you do not, you might have to repay federal and state aid in the future.

Army Nurse Corps Association (ANCA)

The purpose of the Army Nurse Corps Association Scholarship Program is to award scholarships to U.S. citizen students attending accredited baccalaureate or graduate nursing or anesthesia nursing programs. The 2013 scholarships will be awarded in memory of Captain Bruce Kevin Clark, Army Nurse Corps. In May 2012, while deployed to to Tarin Kowt, Afghanistan in support of US and coalition forces, he lost his life due to noncombat-related causes. Captain Clark joined the US Army in 2006 after completing his baccalaureate in nursing at The College of Brockport, State University of New York. He served at Tripler Army Medical Center, Honolulu, Hawaii, and at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, El Paso, Texas, before his deployment. ANCA salutes Captain Clark for his patriotic service and sacrifice for his country. For more details, you can download our informational flyer.

TravelNursing.org Nursing Education Scholarship Both

TravelNursing.org is happy to provide scholarships for qualifying applicants who are applying to a medical related field or who are currently pursuing further education in the fields of nursing and medicine. Interested applicants are invited to submit an essay of 500-1000 words explaining what it is they hope to accomplish during their career in the medical field. Applicants and potential scholarship winners will be critiqued by the editorial staff at TravelNursing.org and selected annually on February 10th. Applications are due by January 10th. Applications are welcomed from anybody who meets the application requirements. If you are currently enrolled in a medical program or have been accepted by a program but not yet started, you are eligible to apply for the scholastic award . 2012 APNA Janssen Student Scholarship Both Nursing students from across the United States are invited to apply and Deans and Directors of nursing schools are invited to nominate one or more students from their school for the 2012 APNA Ortho-McNeil Janssen Scientific Affairs, LLC Student Scholarship Program. This scholarship includes registration, travel and lodging expenses to attend the APNA 26th Annual Conference, November 7-10, 2012 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. In addition, winners will receive one year complimentary membership in the APNA.  Please note that only completed applications received on or before July 11, 2012will be considered. All required information on your submission must be completed before the deadline. There will be no exceptions. July 11, 2012
National Hispanic Health Professional Student Both

The National Hispanic Health Foundation, affiliated with the Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service, New York University, will award 20 scholarships to dental, medical, nursing, public health, pharmacy and policy students who exhibit exceptional academic performance, leadership, and commitment to the Hispanic community.

Sixteen recipients will receive $5,000 and four will receive $2,000.  The 10 scholarships will be presented to awardees at the Fifth Annual California Scholarship Gala in Los Angeles on Thursday, November 8, 2012 (the other 10 will be awarded at our New York Scholarship Gala).

HRSA's Health Resources and Services Administration  
The NSP awards scholarships to students enrolled or accepted for enrollment in accredited RN training programs. Scholarship recipients receive tuition, fees, other educational costs and a living stipend in exchange for at least 2 years of post graduation service at a health care facility with a critical shortage of nurses.

Scotland's Saltire Scholarship G Fifty scholarships are available to U.S. nationals for graduate study in Scotland. The Saltire Scholarships are aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hardworking individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. £2,000 is available as a one-off award towards the cost of tuition fees for a full time master's-level course (excluding PhD studies) in a wide range of subject areas. Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) by HRSA   HRSA's Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP), managed by the Bureau of Health Professions' Division of Nursing, was appropriated $10.2 million for FY 2002. The NELRP is designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of registered nurses dedicated to providing health care to
undeserved populations by providing substantial economic assistance to repay their educational loans in exchange for service to the undeserved in eligible health facilities.

All NELRP participants must enter into a contract agreeing to provide full-time employment in an approved eligible health facility for 2 or 3 years. In return, the NELRP will pay 60 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 2-year commitment or 85 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 3-year commitment.

State Nursing Assumption Program (SNAPLE) Nursing Education Grants (.pdf) Both
The SNAPLE NSF is a state-funded competitive registered nurse incentive program administered by the California Student Aid Commission (Commission). It is designed to encourage outstanding students to obtain their California Registered Nursing License and serve in an eligible position as a registered nurse in a state-operated facility with a registered nurse vacancy rate greater than 10 percent. This year the Commission will select up to 100 new participants for the program.
Under the provisions of the SNAPLE NSF program, the Commission will assume up to $20,000 of outstanding educational loan balances. To be eligible, participants must work in an eligible position as a registered nurse in a state-operated facility with a registered nurse vacancy rate greater than 10 percent.

Fulbright Program Both The United States Department of State is pleased to announce the scholarship competition for the 2011 Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for overseas intensive summer language institutes in thirteen critical need foreign languages. CLS institutes provide fully-funded group-based intensive language instruction and structured cultural enrichment experiences for seven to ten weeks for U.S. citizen undergraduate and graduate students. Interested applicants should review the full eligibility and application information on the CLS Program website at www.clscholarship.org/applicants. Arabic, Chinese, Persian, Russian, and Japanese institutes have language prerequisites, described at http://www.clscholarship.org/applicants.htm#prerequisites. The APNA Janssen Student Scholarship Program includes registration, travel and lodging expenses to attend the APNA 24th Annual Conference, October 13-16, 2010, in Louisville, Kentucky. Both The Health Professions Education Foundation is pleased to announce the next application deadline - March 24, 2010 - for its scholarships and loan repayments. Eligible professions include allied health, vocational and registered nurses, mental health providers, physicians and other health professions.

Scholarships (awarded to current students) range from $4,000 to $13,000 and loan repayments (awarded to current health professionals) range from $8,000 to $105,000. Applicants awarded a scholarship or loan repayments are required to provide direct patient care in a medically underserved area for a specified period of time.
