Held Nursing Award, Held Family Foundation Both The Held Foundation has established the Louise Held Award for Excellence in Nursing to recognize and encourage the very best nursing graduates in the United States. Nurses who are selected will receive $2,500 a year for five years as long as they continue to qualify. The award may be used for any purpose and is not restricted in any way. AACN/After College Scholarships B Eight $2,500 scholarships will be awarded throughout the year to students attending AACN member schools. Students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree in nursing are eligible to apply. October 31, 2007
State Nursing Assumption Program (SNAPLE) Nursing Education Grants (.pdf) B Intended to encourage students to complete a baccalaureate or graduate degree and teach in a nursing program at an accredited college or university in California. Up to $25,000 over 3 academic years on a full-time basis, or on a part-time basis for the equivalent of three full-time academic years, on outstanding students loans for nursing faculty. Must be student enrolled in or admitted to a program, in which they will be enrolled at least half-time each academic term, making satisfactory academic progress, and be nominated for participation in the program by their institution.

Applications must be completed by the applicant, submitted to the director of your nursing program where it will be reviewed and nominated, then the director must send it to the Commission in time for final review and selection prior to June 30, 2007.

Small Research Grants Program, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing G This Honor Society supports research contributing to the advancement of nursing. Forensic Nursing Scholarship (.doc) U This bi-annual forensic nursing scholarship is available for two qualified applicants each semester. The criteria includes:
  • Senior level nursing student with a minimum 3.0 GPA
  • Two (2) letters of recommendation
  • An interest in forensic nursing
Once selected, a nursing chapter member will present the award to the recipient during a class or assembly. Scholarship recipients will also be invited to attend the next scheduled SCCIAFN chapter meeting to meet chapter members.

Scholarship Program for currently enrolled nursing students and a Career
Center for new graduates looking to transition into the professional
practice environment.
Special consideration will be given to students:

Health Professions Education Loan Repayment Program by the State of CA G - CNM & NP students To increase NPs & CNMs practicing direct patient care in medically undeserved areas of California. Loan repayment assistance is available to identified practitioners currently employed or who have a tentative offer of
full-time employment in a medically undeserved area. Eligible applicants may receive up to $20,000 over a 2 year period for repayment of educational debt.

 
Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) by HRSA   HRSA's Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP), managed by the Bureau of Health Professions' Division of Nursing, was appropriated $10.2 million for FY 2002. The NELRP is designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of registered nurses dedicated to providing health care to
undeserved populations by providing substantial economic assistance to repay their educational loans in exchange for service to the undeserved in eligible health facilities.

All NELRP participants must enter into a contract agreeing to provide full-time employment in an approved eligible health facility for 2 or 3 years. In return, the NELRP will pay 60 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 2-year commitment or 85 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 3-year commitment.

 
Health Professions Preparatory, Pregraduate and Indian Health Professions Scholarship Programs by the Department of Health and Human Services

Both The Indian Health Service (IHS) is publishing a Notice of Availability of Funds for Health Professions Preparatory, Pregraduate, and Indian Health Professions Scholarship Programs for Fiscal Year (FY) 2002. The IHS announces the availability of approximately $3,750,800 to fund scholarships for the Health Professions Preparatory and Pregraduate Scholarship Programs for FY 2002 awards.

The Public Health Service (PHS) is committed to achieving the health promotion and disease prevention objectives of Healthy People 2010, a PHS-led activity for setting priority areas. This program announcement is related to the priority area of Education and Community-Based Programs.

 
Availability of Funds for Loan Repayment Program for Repayment of Health Professions Educational Loans, by the Department of Health and Human Services  

The Administration's budget request for fiscal year (FY) 2002 includes $11,923,500 for the Indian Health Service (IHS) Loan Repayment Program (LRP) for health professions educational loans (undergraduate and graduate) in return for full-time clinical service in Indian health programs.

It is anticipated that $11,923,500 will be available to support approximately 298 competing awards averaging $40,000 per award.
