The SDSU Office of Financial Aid and Scholarships lists numerous additional scholarships specific to nursing students as well as opportunities open to all students.

You must report any scholarship information to the Office of Financial Aid & Scholarships. If you do not, you might have to repay federal and state aid in the future.

Both Two $1000 scholarships will be awarded to nursing students currently seeking a 2-year degree. July 1, 2009
AfterCollege/AACN Scholarship Both Scholarships will be in the amount of $2,500. Nursing students enrolled in a baccalaureate, master’s or doctoral degree program in nursing with a GPA of 3.25 or higher. Scotland's Saltire Scholarship G Fifty scholarships are available to U.S. nationals for graduate study in Scotland. The Saltire Scholarships are aimed at encouraging bright, talented and hardworking individuals to live, work and study in Scotland. £2,000 is available as a one-off award towards the cost of tuition fees for a full time master's-level course (excluding PhD studies) in a wide range of subject areas. Recipients can choose to study at any of Scotland's universities and higher education institutions.

Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarship

Both The Camden Group established the Victor E. Schimmel Memorial Nursing Scholarship fund to promote advanced education of tomorrow's leaders and nursing faculty. The Camden Group will award 3 scholarships to individuals who are currently enrolled, or have recently been accepted into, a college or university for an advanced degree. April 10, 2009

American Legion Auxiliary (pdf)

Roybal Foundation Scholarship

Both The purpose of the Roybal Foundation Scholarship Program is to provide scholarships to Hispanic Students in their Junior or Senior year or in a Graduate Program of an accredited College or University who are pursuing public health careers and wish to serve the interest of low-income Spanish-speaking communities in the United States. Individual scholarships will be in the amount of $5,000 for graduate students and $2,500 for undergraduate students. May 1, 2009

Held Nursing Award, Held Family Foundation Both The Held Foundation has established the Louise Held Award for Excellence in Nursing to recognize and encourage the very best nursing graduates in the United States. Nurses who are selected will receive $2,500 a year for five years as long as they continue to qualify. The award may be used for any purpose and is not restricted in any way. American Lung Association

G Scholarships are available for graduate students in nursing committed to developing a specialty in pulmonary nursing, acute and/or chronic care. July 1, 2008
AACN/After College Scholarships Both Eight $2,500 scholarships will be awarded throughout the year to students attending AACN member schools. Students who are seeking a baccalaureate, master's or doctoral degree in nursing are eligible to apply. October 31, 2008
State Nursing Assumption Program (SNAPLE) Nursing Education Grants (.pdf) Both Intended to encourage students to complete a baccalaureate or graduate degree and teach in a nursing program at an accredited college or university in California. Up to $25,000 over 3 academic years on a full-time basis, or on a part-time basis for the equivalent of three full-time academic years, on outstanding students loans for nursing faculty. Must be student enrolled in or admitted to a program, in which they will be enrolled at least half-time each academic term, making satisfactory academic progress, and be nominated for participation in the program by their institution.

Applications must be completed by the applicant, submitted to the director of your nursing program where it will be reviewed and nominated, then the director must send it to the Commission in time for final review and selection prior to June 30, 2008.

Tafford Uniforms Nursing Scholarship Both Starting in June 2007, Tafford Uniforms will award at least two (2) $1,000 scholarships in the each of the spring and fall semesters. Small Research Grants Program, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing G This Honor Society supports research contributing to the advancement of nursing. Applicants must be registered nurses who hold a master's or doctoral degree or are enrolled in a doctoral program. There is a preference for applications from novice researchers who have received no other national research funds as well as for Sigma Theta Tau International members. Health Professions Education Loan Repayment Program by the State of CA G - CNM & NP students To increase NPs & CNMs practicing direct patient care in medically undeserved areas of California. Loan repayment assistance is available to identified practitioners currently employed or who have a tentative offer of full-time employment in a medically undeserved area. Eligible applicants may receive up to $20,000 over a 2 year period for repayment of educational debt.  
Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP) by HRSA   HRSA's Nursing Education Loan Repayment Program (NELRP), managed by the Bureau of Health Professions' Division of Nursing, was appropriated $10.2 million for FY 2002. The NELRP is designed to assist in the recruitment and retention of registered nurses dedicated to providing health care to
undeserved populations by providing substantial economic assistance to repay their educational loans in exchange for service to the undeserved in eligible health facilities.

All NELRP participants must enter into a contract agreeing to provide full-time employment in an approved eligible health facility for 2 or 3 years. In return, the NELRP will pay 60 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 2-year commitment or 85 percent of the participant's total qualifying loan balance for a 3-year commitment.
