The innovative partnership of the VA Nursing Academy (VANA) is designed to increase the number of faculty at SDSU SON and VA Hospital of San Diego. This allows SDSU SON students to experience more clinicals at the VA hospital. Clinicals are offered in medical surgical nursing, psychiatric nursing, critical care nursing, and administrative/leadership nursing. Many of the VANA VA faculty are Clinical Nurse Specialists (CNS) on the VA units. Being a VANA faculty member and CNS on their 'home' units often adds greater depth to the student learning experience on those units. The number of clinicals available to SDSU SON students have increased due to the VANA program. All students participating in a clinical rotation at the VA hospital are considered part of the VANA program.
