Three of our graduate program alumni have achieved new “firsts” in the Imperial County Healthcare region.
Araceli Ramos-Nelson & Mercy Valenzuela, both graduates of our Certified Nurse Midwifery program, became the first practicing midwives in the region and were recently honored for their work by Assemblyman Eduardo Garcia (D-56th District). They were 2 of 8 distinguished women leaders nominated for the honor of Imperial County Woman of the Year.
Julie Kunath, MS, APRN, AGPCNP-BC, ACCNS-AG, CCRN, a graduate of our Advanced Practice Nursing, NP/CNS program is also making waves by becoming the first hospital-based Clinical Nurse Specialist position in the Imperial Valley. With the support of CNO, Robyn Atadero, Julie worked to develop and gain approval for this new nursing position at Pioneers Memorial Hospital. Julie is nationally certified as an Acute Care Adult Gerontology CNS by the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN) and as an Adult-Gerontology Primary Care NP by the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC).
