Nursing graduate level courses are primarily held in-person. Certain core courses may be held in an executive/hybrid format.

Post-Masters DNP courses are held in an executive/hybrid model with pre-scheduled class dates that require in-person attendance.

Admissions and Applications

  • Application to the SDSU School of Nursing Graduate Programs is a two part process.
  • Applications must be submitted to both SDSU Graduate Admissions and the SDSU School of Nursing.

Complete the Cal State Apply application for DNP admission

  • All applicants must complete the Cal State Apply application and pay the required fee
  • A SDSU RED ID Number will then be assigned which allows tracking of application status online.
Transcripts

Submit one set of official transcripts from each issuing institution for all coursework completed following high school to Graduate Admissions.  Transcripts must be received by the posted due dates. See SDSU Graduate Admissions for further information.

Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL)

The TOEFL exam is required prior to admission if the Postsecondary instruction was in a language other than English.  Exam scores are to be sent directly to SDSU Graduate Admissions from ETS. The institution number for SDSU is 4682.  See the SDSU Catalog and SDSU Graduate Admissions for minimum acceptable scores and further information.

School of Nursing Program Applications must be completed by April 1, 2025

The School of Nursing Program application requires the following items:

  • Copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities attended (these do not need to be sent directly from the colleges – photocopies are acceptable)
  • Copies of the TOEFL test scores (if applicable).

SDSU DNP Program Outcomes

  1. Use knowledge from nursing and other disciplines to generate, appraise, synthesize, translate, and disseminate best evidence to inform and guide clinical judgements and innovations in advanced nursing practice.

  2. Design, implement, and evaluate evidenced based and patient centered practice change to improve health and address social determinants of health, health inequities and disparities from public health prevention to disease management of individuals, communities, and populations.

  3. Demonstrate excellence, innovation, and autonomy in advanced nursing practice and systems-based leadership to coordinate interprofessional teams to provide safe, compassionate, quality, efficient and equitable care to individuals and diverse populations.

  4. Foster interprofessional collaborative efforts to evaluate and influence health policies to improve health care delivery and facilitate knowledge transfer through the development of innovative instructional designs at multiple levels (institutional, local, state, federal or international).

  5. Integrate effective communication, patient care technology and information systems to expand knowledge and drive decision making to manage and improve healthcare services in alignment with professional and regulatory standards.

  6. Demonstrate professional and ethical advanced nursing accountability, identity, and leadership integrating diversity, equity, and inclusion and fostering personal health, resilience, well-being, and lifelong learning.
